A Champion Review by Shlok Choudhary

"Champion" marks the conclusion to Marie Lu's captivating Legend trilogy. Published on November 5th, 2013, "Champion" takes readers on a rollercoaster ride filled with political intrigue, heart-wrenching decisions, and the undeniable resilience of its main characters, Day and June.

Similar to its predecessors, "Champion" maintains the dual-narrative structure, alternating between the perspectives of June and Day. While some readers may find this approach disorienting, it adds depth to the story by providing unique insights into the minds of the two protagonists.

The novel begins with the Republic facing external threats and internal struggles simmering beneath the surface. The stakes are higher than ever, and the characters are forced to confront complex moral dilemmas. One of the central elements driving the narrative is the relationship between Day and June, which evolves amidst the challenges they face.

One of the pivotal moments in "Champion" is the emergence of a deadly plague threatening the Republic. As Day and June grapple with their feelings for each other, they are also tasked with finding a cure for this devastating disease. The pressure intensifies as they race against time, balancing personal and political responsibilities.

The political landscape is further complicated by introducing new characters and alliances. The stakes are raised even higher when June is offered a position of power within the Republic, adding an extra layer of tension to their already complex relationship. The dynamic between Day, June, and the external forces at play creates a compelling narrative that keeps readers on the edge of their seats.

One of the strengths of "Champion" lies in Marie Lu's ability to craft vivid and immersive scenes. The world-building is meticulous, making it easy for readers to visualize the dystopian setting and empathize with the characters' struggles. Lu's attention to detail brings the story to life, making it an amazingly immersive experience for the reader.

In conclusion, "Champion" is a well-written conclusion to the Legend trilogy. While the dual-narrative style may not be everyone's cup of tea, the intricate plot, well-developed characters, and the author's vivid storytelling make it a must-read for fans of dystopian fiction. I would rate "Champion" a solid 9/10, mainly because I preferred the other book over this one.

  1. Hey Shlok, this seems to be such an intriguing book. I have a love-hate relationship when it comes to dystopian novels because sometimes they're plain mundane. "Champion," seems to be one of the many exceptions, and incorporates interesting aspects of politics. Great post.

  2. Hi Shlok. This blog seems very interesting. I love how you're able to explain why you gave the book a rating of 9/10. Most of the other blogs that I've read always give ratings, but they never elaborate on why they gave it that rating. Great blog.

  3. I remember really liking the duel narrative because its really fun to look at how different characters describe the same setting in Legend. I've been thinking about finishing the series because I believe I started Prodigy but never finished it. Overall, this book seems pretty cool. Great review!

  4. Hey Shlok, I've heard about this book series by many of my friends, but I wasn't really sure what it was about. I think you gave a very detailed, but not spoiling, description. When I'm looking to read another book I'll defiently consider this one. Thanks!

  5. Hi Shlok, I like how you mentioned the dual narration of the books in this series! Great review, I wanted to ask you though how you felt about Legend's successor books and how they compare to the first. Do you feel like they did the story justice, or gradually dull out the story, a sad issue with many other dystopian Y/A series?
